  1. To buy your dream home, the first thing you should do is get prequalified for a loan. Go to your local mortgage company or companies online such as Lending Tree and ask them to get your prequalified for a loan. The loan officer will tell you exactly how much the bank will give you. Based on that amount you can go shop for homes.
  2. Don't make any big purchases before getting prequalified for a loan. Big purchases such as cars are not a good idae. If you buy a car and you're married, you may find yourself leaning towards buying a new home or upgrading to a larger home. The loan officer follows methods and prequalifies you based on your income and expenses such as car payments, credit cards, etc.
  3. Changing employers wil not affect your mortgage qualification, especially if you're going to earn more money. However, for some home buyers, changing of the job can be disastrous for your mortgage application.
